SIX men have been charged for stealing parts from rescue vehicles at mines in the West Australian goldfields.
According to police officials, parts were stolen from emergency equipment and rescue machines in two separate thefts at the Super Pit gold mine and Darlot mine near Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.
If convicted, the mine employees, aged between 33 and 44, will never be allowed to work in the gold mining industry again.
Officials say the chargers are being considered ‘especially serious’ because of the stolen equipment’s importance in emergency situations.
“There are serious consequences mine employees can expect to face should they be tempted to engage in unlawful activity which will ultimately compromise their employment and livelihood,” the spokesperson said.
Two of the men are expected to stand trial in the Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court in June 2008.
