Welding tip innovation improves mine vehicle manufactures productivity and environmental impact

THE ENERGY and Resources Minister Peter Batchelor has announced new welding technology developed in Victoria will help mine vehicle manufacturers improve productivity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The welding tip is only about 3 centimetres long but is set to provide huge improvements for industry and the environment, both here and overseas.

Frontline Australasia is already using the welding tip and is reporting productivity gains of 27%.

These tips can weld 50% faster and last twice as long as current tips, and use 30% less energy and generate about 25% less CO2. They also use less welding material, saving hundreds of metres of wire per robot per day.

The unit was developed MIGfast who received funding from the Centre for Energy and Greenhouse Technologies (CEGT) which is a Brumby Government initiative to develop and demonstrate new sustainable energy and greenhouse gas reduction technologies.
