Motor generator lands at Bowen Basin
The dragline was trapped in floodwatersA RUSSIAN aircraft has flown a $4.5m motor generator (MG) to the Ensham Coal mine in the Bowen Basin to repair the $100m dragline at the site.
The mine’s 3000t Bucyrus 8060 dragline was trapped when floodwaters swamped half the mine’s operating pits in January 2008.
The MG set is one of two to power the dragline’s moving parts with electric drive motors.
The motor generator, which is usually produced in 52 weeks, was completed ahead of schedule and flown to the site to assist with the recovery operation.
The repairs are said to be on schedule, and are expected to be completed by December 2008.
