More infrastructure needed to cater to NSW’s growing mining industry

THE FREIGHT and Logistics Council of NSW (FALCON) says that road networks will not be capable of transporting all central western New South Wales' freight into the future.

FALCON’s co-chairman Tony Davidson says existing infrastructure will not be able to cater to the region’s growing mining industry.

The council held a forum to discuss the issue which was attended by about 40 people from companies including Rio Tinto's North Parkes mine and SCT freight transporters.

The acting executive officer of FALCON, Hugh McMaster, says some businesses told the forum their exports had not made it to ports on time and their international customers were concerned about reliability.

Subsequently, a central west group has been established to investigate ways to improve freight transport and handling to cope with the region's output.
