Intelligent mining vehicles change the landscape of the mining industry

THE CSIRO has posted a podcast which explains automation in the resources industry and discusses what is in store for the mines of tomorrow.

CSIRO’s Exploration and Mining Chief Dr Mike McWilliams says that Australian science and engineering is advancing the frontiers of intelligent automation in the resources industry with the building of intelligent machines and systems for use in the mining and exploration industry.

McWilliams claims that for centuries the industry has looked at better ways of removing people from hazardous and inhospitable working environments without impacting on efficiency and productivity.

The researchers say that new intelligent machines and systems capable of being operated remotely at distances ranging from a few metres to more than a thousand kilometres are changing the landscape of the mining industry.
