THE GYMPIE Gold Mining and Historical Society Museum showcased historical steam engines which drove typical mining machinery of a bygone era between 20 and 21 June 2009.
This is a rare and special event, only happens a few times a year.
The museum was the site of the famous No. 2 South Great Eastern Mine. The original Mine Boiler House houses the typical Cornish Boiler, which drives the massive Walkers Maryborough steam engine, built in 1899.
This is the huge winding engine for the mine shaft mechanism. This drove large rope drums to raise and lower cages containing miners and /or ore up and down to the various mining levels.
