Mathews says that the firm’s goal was to achieve optimum equipment utilisation, environmental care and occupational health and safety systems that meet the reporting expectations of its customers, while providing a safe work environment for its staff.
Fleet Manager Angelo Rodi says that its Kenworth, Freightliner and Volvo prime movers travel between 100,000-400,000 kilometres a year. The group uses synthetic oil and the Groeneveld automatic greasing systems on all vehicles to increase service intervals to 50,000 kilometres and minimise the cost of parts and equipment downtime.
The company claims that it has a continuous vehicle replacement program, so it is critical that vehicles meet our high standards and are maintained correctly. Parts wear has been significantly reduced due to the Groeneveld system, so when the vehicles are due to be traded they are in excellent condition with no need for major overhaul.
Mathews said GTS has been able to maintain its margins in this competitive industry and this proves that keeping trucks fully utilised is a key element for a successful transport business. He said Groeneveld has played a major part in this.
