RIO Tinto has declared force majeure on some of its iron ore shipments after a rail car dumper was damaged in Western Australia.
The vehicle was damaged at Pilbara’s Cape Lambert operation on 31 August, causing the suspension of some of its iron ore unloading activities.
The dumper is one of five of Rio’s in the Pilbara, and one of two at Cape Lambert.
It is expected to be out of operation for up to three weeks.
Rio has advised its customers of the incident, and amended rail and shipping schedules to minimise capacity losses.
