CSIRO investigates diesel exhausts
The research project tested a range of diesel engines The CSIRO has released a research report through the Australian Coal Industry Research Program (ACARP) which found diesel particulates from mining vehicle exhausts may be reduced by 95% using acoustic agglomeration techniques.
The research project tested a range of diesel engines to measure particulate emissions over the RPM spectrum.
A diesel exhaust scrubber ultrasonic filter prototype was developed and tested on mine vehicles for three months to monitor the maximum effect of particle removal.
According to ACARP, the project exceeded initial expectations and found diesel particles may be reduced by as much as 95%.
The research also highlighted areas requiring further research. According to ACARP, further improvements to diesel particle agglomeration are possible by using separate acoustic frequencies and improved mini cyclone technology.
